The Reading Room: Community Guidelines

Last Updated: 2026-09-28

The Reading Room is Tarotdoxa’s community space inside the app, for paying members 18 and older in the United States. Read this before your first post. You’ll be asked to agree to these guidelines the first time you post.

The three rules

The three rules are Holly’s, in her words.

This room works because of how we treat each other, so we keep it simple. Three rules.

1. Your own voice. Post your own readings, in your own words. Your gut is the thing we’re training in here, and I want to hear what you see, not what a book or an app says. Want to share a Tarotdoxa reading? Go for it. Attach it with its label so everyone knows it’s the app talking, then tell us what you see in it. Just never pass one off as your own. Nobody runs your posts through an AI-writing detector (those get it wrong too often to trust). If something looks copied, you’ll get a friendly nudge from someone on our team, and that’s all.

2. Good effort. Give people enough to read with: your question, the spread, the cards, and which ones came up reversed. Same with replies. “Nice” doesn’t help anybody, and neither does a wall of text nobody can get through on their phone. Real thought, readable length.

3. Kindness and care. Add to each other’s readings. Never cross them out. Like I say in class, we gotta stay kind of fluid and loosey goosey, and that’s how you do really good tarot. So instead of “you’re wrong,” try “What about also…?” or “Here’s what I’m seeing.” Tarot is now telling, not doom and gloom: no scary predictions about anybody, ever. When you talk about the people in your readings, leave out their names and anything that points to them. And if someone here is going through something heavy, meet them with care. If you’re worried someone might be in danger, tap Report and choose “I’m worried about someone.” A real person on our team will see it, maybe not right away, so if anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.

If you’re the one who’s struggling, please reach out. In the US, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free, 24/7), chat at 988lifeline.org, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line). Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists free local hotlines. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency services.

We’ll only add rules if the room shows us we need them, and if we do, we’ll tell you why.

The short list: removed right away

A few things close the room to you: for 30 days the first time, and for good the second. The worst of them, like threats, scams, or egging anyone on to hurt themselves, close it for good the first time.

  • Selling readings or services, or asking anyone to move to another app, site, number, or private message. Trading free practice readings right here in the room is exactly what it’s for, and the monthly Zoom link in From Russ and Holly is our one exception.
  • Pretending to be someone you’re not, including me or anyone on our team.
  • Doom-reading another member: reading about someone here who didn’t ask you to, or telling a member something terrible is coming for them.
  • Harassing, threatening, or bullying anyone, or egging anyone on to hurt themselves.
  • Sexual content. Love, sex, and relationships as reading topics are fine. Explicit posts and come-ons are not.
  • Hate or slurs about anyone: their race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or anything else about who they are.
  • Telling anyone else to start or stop a medicine or a treatment, or to make a legal or money move, because of the cards.
  • Sharing someone else’s private details: their name, photos, messages, anything that isn’t yours to share.

Every post gets a quick automatic check before it goes up, and anything it isn’t sure about waits for a real person on our team.

What happens when a post breaks a rule

The automatic check can only hold a post for a person to look at. It never removes a post, and it never gives a time-out or a ban on its own. A real person on our team makes every one of those calls.

For the three rules, the post comes down with a note that names the rule and gives you a copy of what you wrote, so you can post it again with that part changed. The second time, you get a second note. The third time, you get a 30-day time-out, then a clean slate. A time-out means you can still read the room, but you cannot post, reply, or heart anything until it ends.

A firm-rule break from the short list above closes the room to you for 30 days the first time and for good the second time; the worst of them (threats, scams, or egging anyone on to hurt themselves) close the room for good the first time.

A time-out or a closed room only affects the Reading Room. School, the Casebook, and The Constellations stay open, and your readings keep working, because you paid for those too.

Reports and blocks

Tap Report on a post to flag it for our team, or choose “I’m worried about someone” if you’re concerned for another member’s safety. We never tell anyone who reported them. You can block another member from their profile at any time; once you do, you won’t see their posts or replies, and they can’t reply to yours.

Harvest spaces

Lesson text and case answers stay in their Harvest spaces. Members on Seed, Root, and Bloom can see those spaces and the titles of the posts in them, but only Harvest members can open them.

No links, no private messages

There’s no way to send another member a private message inside the Reading Room. Links off the app aren’t allowed in posts either; if you want to point someone to something, describe it in your own words instead. The monthly Zoom class link, posted by our team, is the one exception, as the short list above says.

We’re a small team

We don’t watch the room around the clock, so a held post or a report may not get a look right away. If you’re thinking about hurting yourself, or worried about someone who might be, free help is here any hour: in the US, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free, 24/7), chat at 988lifeline.org, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line). Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists free local hotlines. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency services.
